Alex Jones Claims He Lost 10,000 Bitcoins Stored on Laptop
Alex Jones, founder of the far-right media group Infowars, has revealed that he has lost a laptop containing 10,000 bitcoins that was given to him by television personality and bitcoin advocate Max Keizer. During a Flagrant 2 show with Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh on Tuesday, he said that Keizer gave him 10K BTC on a laptop 10 years ago.
The American far-right web and radio host is known for his imaginative conspiracy theories. He was described by New York Magazine as “America’s foremost conspiracy theorist”, and the Southern Poverty Law Center described him as “the most prolific conspiracy theorist in contemporary America”.
A longtime bitcoin critic, Jones refused to warm up to cryptocurrency until mid-February last year, when he acknowledged Keizer’s broadcast: “You’re right, I should have been involved in bitcoin a long time ago.” At that time, Keizer predicted that the bitcoin price would reach $400K.
During Tuesday’s show, Jones shared: “Ten years ago… Max Keizer came to me and he said I have 10,000 bitcoins for you. This is the future. It will be the new global currency. He’s recorded. However, Jones claims:
I lost the laptop he used for 10,000 bitcoins. Today, how much is 10,000 bitcoin worth? Lots.
Schulz immediately helped Jones calculate how much his bitcoins were worth. Gathering the price of bitcoin, he estimates 10,000 BTC will be worth about $500 million. “You idiot. Find that laptop,” said Schulz with a laugh. At Jones’ request, Schulz got up and lightly slapped him twice. “I deserved it,” Jones exclaimed while everyone on set laughed.
At the time of writing, the bitcoin price is 56,200 and the missing BTC Jones would be worth more than $562 million.
Max Keizer Confirms He Gave Jones 10K Bitcoin
“I swear to God this is real. I didn’t know Keizer was like that with Putin and the Easter Bunny,” Jones said further on the show.
Keizer later confirmed that he did give Jones a laptop containing 10K BTC. “Yes. It was under $5 at the time,” he stressed, adding that Jones’ story was “One of the most shocking chapters in bitcoin.” Keizer later argued:
Now [10K bitcoin Jones yang hilang] worth $565 million… Soon (by 2022) to be worth $2.2 billion.
