First Litecoin-Native Visa Debit Card Launched

The first Litecoin (LTC) native Visa debit card launched by BlockCard.

Charlie Lee told Cointelegraph that this is their second attempt at the effort as the previous one failed: “We previously worked with LitePay with a debit card, but failed when LitePay went out of business.”

Lee also makes a distinction between this Litecoin native debit card and other crypto-cards that support the currency:

“There are other crypto debit cards available today that support Litecoin, but they only support funding with LTC. This card is originally LTC, so funds are held in LTC until you swipe the card. ”

While Litecoiners can already sign up for the card, the service itself won’t be available for a few more weeks. On a lighter note, Lee notes his opinion that there is no such thing as a “Litecoin maximalist”:

“I don’t think it doesn’t even exist. Most Litecoiners support and hold BTC as well. ”

Users will be able to make deposits in twelve of the most popular cryptocurrencies, including all major stablecoins. According to Lee, about 300 users have signed up so far. Meanwhile Litecoin continues to be among the top ten coins by market cap and has one of the largest followers on social media.
