Celebrity couple Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have taken an equity stake in crypto firm FTX as part of a long-term partnership. This is a leap for both of them to enter the world of digital assets and make FTX as an option.
Brady, a famous American football player, and Bündchen, a world-famous supermodel, will be ambassadors for FTX based on the announcement.
Unfortunately, FTX declined to say what stock they bought, but the exchange said they would both accept an unspecified amount and type of crypto. Bündchen will also take on the role of advisor to the FTX environmental and social initiatives.
“Tom and Gisele are both legends and they’ve both reached the pinnacle of what they do, we wanted them to represent FTX,” said Sam Bankman-Fried, founder and CEO of FTX.
FTX, with its 29-year-old Bankman-Fried, has become one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world since its launch two years ago.
Tom Brady Is Not New to Crypto
Brady’s name itself is not foreign to cryptocurrencies, he had followed the euphoria about Bitcoin’s volatility last May. Brady changed his Twitter profile picture to show himself as a laser eye which is a statement to show support for the industry. A day later, he also posted a video showing him throwing a fictitious Bitcoin at the moon, which appears to be bouncing hard.
“This isn’t the first time they’ve gotten involved in crypto, not the first time they’ve thought about it or even used it, which I think makes it a much more natural and authentic partnership, they’re an example of a user FTX wants to choose from,” said Bankman-Fried.
Brady also said that he, his coach and teammates have been talking about cryptocurrencies and their oscillating prices on a daily basis.
“This is a very exciting time in the crypto world and Sam and the revolutionary FTX team were able to open my eyes to endless possibilities. This special opportunity shows us the importance of educating people about the power of crypto while simultaneously giving back to our communities and planet,” said Brady.
One of the goals of FTX was to make donations to the most suitable charities in the world. So far the exchange has allocated more than $10 million to do so. FTX, Brady and Bündchen have all committed to an annual multi-million dollar contribution during the partnership and Bündchen will play a role in selecting the charity.
“His mandate will not be crypto specific, he will probably work at the FTX Foundation says Bankman-Fried
Meanwhile, FTX has made waves in the sports world by striking a deal with Major League Baseball earlier this month and renaming the National Basketball Association Miami Heat stadium to FTX Arena, the crypto company’s first NBA stadium deal.
“A lot of what we’ve seen is what we can do that really stands out and represents us well, according to our brand that really grabs people’s attention. We will do what we can to get more attention,” said Bankman-Fried.
